AMP 6500 Terminal Quick Setup Guide

AMP 6500 Terminal Quick Setup Guide

AMP 6500 Terminal Quick Setup Guide

This guide describes the process of configuring your payment terminal and preparing it for installation. Your AMP 6500 unattended payment processing terminal comes with the following:

  1. Payment terminal
  2. Weatherproof silicone gasket (attached)
  3. AC power cord
  4. AC adapter
  5. AC connection Microfit adapter
  6. MDB cable

IMPORTANT: The AMP 6500 features an anti-removal detection mechanism to protect against unauthorized removal. The mechanism uses tamper switches that, in the event of unauthorized removal, wipe the data from the terminal.

The terminal ships with metal plates secured to the silicone gasket; these plates provide the necessary pressure to keep the anti-tamper switches depressed under the gasket. DO NOT power up the terminal without the plates or some other material secured to keep the tamper switches depressed.

For more information on the anti-removal mechanism, refer to the Anti-Removal Mechanism section.

The setup guide will explain how to:

  1. Connect terminal power cable
  2. Configure network connections
  1. Install the SIM card for mobile payment processing
  2. Configure the wi-fi settings
  1. Change terminal language settings
  2. Confirm terminal ID and server connection
  3. Check for terminal firmware and software updates
  4. Install PayFacto software
  5. Prepare the terminal for physical installation

The guide also provides general guidelines about the physical installation of the terminal. However, due to the wide variety of situations in which the terminal can be used, this guide is unable to provide specific physical installation instructions.

Prerequisites

Before beginning the terminal configuration process, make sure that the terminal’s serial number is configured in ATMS. If the terminal serial number is not configured in ATMS, you will be unable to complete the entire configuration process. Power down the terminal and contact PayFacto.

Connect Terminal Power Cable

Before you can connect the terminal to a vending device, you must connect the power cable, configure the network connections, and configure the software. To access the terminal’s configuration, you must first connect the power cable.

To connect the terminal power cable:

  1. Turn the terminal over.
  2. On the back of the terminal near the top, lift the port cover towards the top of the terminal.
  3. Insert the AC Microfit adapter in the Microfit port.

NOTE: Although it can only fit one way, make sure the release tab is positioned to the right.
  4. Insert the male portion of the AC adapter cord to the AC Microfit adapter’s female connector.
  5. Plug the female end of the AC cord into the AC adapter and plug into an AC outlet.

The terminal powers on and displays a No SIM card in the POS Please insert a SIM card message. Touch anywhere on the screen to dismiss the message.

Configure Network Connections

The AMP 6500 unattended payment processing terminal requires network access to communicate with the payment server and process transactions. You can connect the terminal to the following types of networks:

  1. Wi-Fi
  2. Mobile (cellular)
  3. Ethernet

You can connect the terminal to multiple network types if you want to ensure network redundancy. The following sections explain how to configure the terminal to each network type.

Connect Terminal to a Vending Device

Due to the many different vending devices available, this guide does not include specific physical installation instructions. It is important to remember that the anti-removal tamper switches must be secured with enough pressure to prevent the accidental erasing of terminal data.

Anti-Removal Mechanism

The AMP 6500 terminal features an anti-removal mechanism that, when triggered, erases all data on the terminal. By default, the anti-removal detection feature is turned off to prevent the accidental erasing of terminal data during the configuration process prior to installation.

IMPORTANT: You should only enable anti-removal security after securely installing the terminal to the vending device and connected the power.

To enable anti-removal security:

  1. Access the terminal’s main screen by touching the Home icon ().
  2. Touch the App Drawer icon ().
  3. If required, touch the APPS tab, then touch the Settings icon ().
  4. On the Admin Login screen, touch the Password field and use the keypad to type the password: 1234567.

  8. Touch the toggle to turn On the Anti-removal security feature.
  9. Touch the Back icon () four times to return to the main screen.

General Installation Guidelines

The following points are some general installation guidelines to consider:

  1. Prior to fitting the terminal in the vending device, securely connect the smaller MDB cable to the MDB port on the rear of the terminal.
  2. If you are using an Ethernet cable to connect the terminal to a network, ensure that the cable is properly seated in the port.
  3. Use the routing guides to secure the MDB and power cables (as well as any other cable) and re-install the back cover on the terminal.
  4. Make sure that the weatherproof silicone gasket is properly seated over around the terminal and that the there is enough pressure around the terminal’s bezel to keep the anti-removal tamper switches depressed.
  5. The terminal can be secured with as little as four (4) screws and as many as ten (10).
  6. Connect the terminal’s MDB and power cables to their matching connections on the vending device.
  7. Refer to the AMP 6500 Series Quick Reference Guide (included in the box with the terminal) for general precautions and operational specifications.

Post-Installation Maintenance

Although the AMP 6500 unattended payment processing terminal is configured to receive updates automatically, you may need to perform some maintenance after you install the terminal to the vending device.

IMPORTANT: Before you attempt to perform any physical maintenance or manipulation on the terminal, be sure to either disable the anti-removal function or to disconnect power from the terminal.

The primary maintenance tasks that may be required after initial installation include:

  1. Changing or configuring network connections
  2. Changing the terminal's language settings
  3. Updating and installing terminal software

In order to perform any of these tasks, you must:

  1. Disconnect the power to the terminal; either by disconnecting the Microfit connector from the back of the terminal or by disconnecting the male portion of the AC adapter cord from Microfit adapter’s female connector.
  2. Disconnect the MDB connector from either the terminal or the vending device.
  3. After you disconnect the MDB connector, you can power the terminal back on to access the terminal’s home screen by touching the Home icon ().

IMPORTANT: If you disable the anti-removal function for maintenance, make sure to re-enable it after you connect the terminal to the vending device.
